Mar Vista CA Community & Homes for Sale

East of Venice is the district of Mar Vista. Named because the views of the Pacific Ocean from the rolling hills are nothing short of spectacular, you’ll find a number of home owning options in Mar Vista in every price range.  The growing and changing cityscape lends itself to options that include brand new homes, particularly in the Mar Vista Hill neighborhood. Because of good zoning, you’ll find Mar Vista seems a little less crowded than most Los Angeles communities. Find out if Mar Vista is right for you. Take a look at my featured properties to see the gems on the current market. You can also use this website to find out more about the local schools, read buyer and seller tips and much more.

Mar Vista is translated in English to "Ocean View".   Mar Vista is a city of many views...ocean, city and mountains. Many of the streets are thusly named - Grand View (ocean, city and mountain views), Ocean View (the street to the west of Grand View), Mountain View (the street to the east), etc.

There are streets also named for the people that developed the areas: Westdale/Truesdale, The Gregory Ain Tract, Mormon Hill.  The Mormons were influential in some of the early development in the city.  In the early 1930's, the Mormons decided to expand their base from Utah to Southern California.  Whenever they moved into a new area, they would search for a location with the best views available.   At the time, the area at the top of what is now named Grand View Boulevard was ideal because 360 degree views were evident.  So the Mormons purchased the entire top of the hill in order to build their new temple. Grand View Blvd was a gated street from Venice Blvd and was quite wide in order to accomodate wagons, pulled by mules, to turn around.   In addition, they also purchased 6 nearby lots to house the elders of the church during temple construction.  They employed local tradesmen to build period houses (which at the time were Spanish).  They also influenced the naming of the streets where these homes were built: Wasatch Avenue (for the Wasatch Mountains) and Boise Avenue.  Ultimately, the homes were built, the elders moved in, but then they found a new site, with an even bigger view, on Santa Monica Boulevard near Overland, where the temple was built and stands today.

I own one of the original Spanish homes on Wasatch.

Mar Vista is a vibrant and growing city.  It is prized for its location as a portal to just about anywhere on the Westside including Century City, Beverly Hills, Downtown and the Beaches.  Real estate values have been strong and schools are rated very highly.  There is a newer Farmers Market each Sunday morning at the intersection of Venice Boulevard and Grand View Blvd.

For more information regarding Mar Vista, please call me and I will share my great experiences there!
